LCC President Commits to Unity, Integrity, and Innovation at General Assembly
At the opening session of the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) General Assembly on May 31, 2025, the President of the LCC, Rev. Dr. Samuel B. Reeves, Jr., on behalf of the leadership of the LCC reaffirmed the Council’s unwavering commitment to justice, unity, and peace. The President pledged to lead the Council with “dignity, discipline, and devotion.”
In his address, he emphasized the LCC’s historic role as Liberia’s moral compass since its founding in 1982. He noted that the Council remains “alive in its mission and advancing its vision” through principled leadership and adherence to its constitution. Key achievements over the past three years include bold advocacy for justice, human rights, religious freedom, and equitable governance. The Council also played a vital mediating role during the House of Representatives crisis, reinforcing its national relevance.
Strategic partnerships with international ecumenical bodies have strengthened the LCC’s efforts to combat corruption, promote gender equity, and advance sustainable development. The Council’s leadership has prioritized financial transparency and addressed internal challenges with openness and integrity. Practical initiatives—such as collaboration with the War and Economic Crimes Court and national moral renewal campaigns—highlight the LCC’s blend of spiritual leadership with real-world impact.
Looking ahead, the President outlined a transformative agenda for the next four years, including establishing trauma centers, launching a youth leadership academy, modernizing headquarters, expanding membership, and enhancing interfaith cooperation. He called on the Church to embrace unity and diversity as strengths, concluding with a prayer for national renewal and spiritual growth. The LCC, he affirmed, stands ready to lead Liberia toward a future marked by justice, reconciliation, and peace.
