
The President of the Liberia Council of Churches Rev. Dr. Samuel B. Reeves Jr. during his first annual message as president of the LCC at the 34th Annual General Assembly have assured that the current leadership of the council of churches and its members will continue to exhibit political neutrality, independence and stance for the respect for human rights.
The president of the LCC maintained that nomember of his administration shall be a spokesperson, affiliate, or card member of or partisan of a political party.
Dr. Reeves however promises that the Liberia Council of Churches will not be an enemy nor friend but rather a partner for progress to the government of Liberia. He stated that the LCC will take no money from the government for national church related programs, such as Fast and Pray Days, July 26 celebration among other activities.
2023 General and Presidential Elections
On the state of the upcoming general and presidential elections, Dr. Reeves encouraged all electorates to not vote on the basis of tribalism and sectionalism but rather vote in the general best interest of all Liberians.
He encouraged Liberians to reject every effort to buy their precious and sacred vote for one’s right to self-determination is only guaranteed by their ability to exercise sacred and holy uninterrupted vote in a free and fair election.
Dr. Reeves cautioned those who only prioritizes their selfish egoistical motives to pursue exclusively their individual interests over good for country to refrain from such devilish trait as it is in direct opposite to the will of God.
To the church, he said “Pastors you are encouraged to lead your congregations to vote and to vote their consciences under the inspiration and influence of only the Holy Spirit.”
Commitments
The LCC president made the following commitment in his annual message on behalf of the LCC:
- The Declaration of Political Neutrality and Objectivity as rooted in Godly integrity. Therefore, NO member of this administration shall be a spokesperson, affiliate, or card member of or partisan of a political party. We stand ready to do God’s work and the work of our people with neutrality and objectivity.
- The Council of Churches will partner with the Government of Liberia (GOL) but will take no money from the government for national church related programs, such as Fast and Pray Days, July 26 Celebration among other activities. The church will support the Church
- We commit, not to be the enemy to or the friend of, but to be true partners with the GOL on national concerns, providing work, spiritual guidance, and wisdom. We commit to being pro-active and not only re- active.
- We commit to the promotion of freedom of speech.
- We commit to the promotion of freedom of religion, food security, better health, education, and Peace and Justice as well as the promotion of gender parity.
- We commit that we will be strong advocate against insecurity and evil in our society.
- We commit to the alleviation of extreme poverty.
- We commit to being a voice in the promotion of peace, good governance and human rights in Liberia.
- We commit to greater equity in the dispatch of our nation’s resources; we oppose ‘get-rich-quick’ activities through misusage of governmental positions and powers.
